Sustainability Matters
We do it for plants, people, and our planet.
North Texas has a Unique Environment
North Texas can be a tough place for plants. We swing from drought to deluge, from 100° highs in summer to sub-freezing lows in winter. We experience severe storms in springtime and fall. Our expansive clay, alkaline soils make it tough for many plants to retain needed moisture and limit nutrient availability.
The plant material available at big box home and garden stores isn’t grown here and most of it can’t tolerate our soils or our climate. Many non-native shrubs, trees, and lawns that have been commonly planted for decades in North Texas can no longer thrive here.

Enhancing Our Shared Environment
Turf grasses cover as much as 40-50% of our urban and suburban areas, and our lawns account for about half of all the water we use at home. Chemicals in fertilizers and common lawn treatments can leach into our ground water supply. Monoculture lawns reduce biodiversity and do not support pollinators and beneficial insects. In Texas, as in most of the world, insects are the most important pollinators of agricultural crops, yet global insect populations are declining at alarming rates.
This is the origin story of Tailored to Texas. Our goal was to establish a company that embodies a profound appreciation of the North Texas region, with a commitment to enhancing our shared environment through purposeful and sustainable landscape design.
